The AMF Distribution in India - A Checklist

Methodology

  1. A complete check list of species occurring in India was developed using VBA programming. A VBA array with names of species and states in which it is present was developed using the data from table species _list which contained the list of all the species present in India. Final number was obtained by removing duplicate entries and comparing with table standard _species. All older names were replaced with new names and all synonyms were merged to one presently accepted name.

  2. With the help of MS access SQL queries separate tables were created for each state and species richness of AMF indicating the biodiversity in each state was calculated. Per cent occurrence of species across a state was calculated on the basis of number of states in which they occurred divided by total number of studies. Species present in more than 50% of studies were recorded as common species of that region.

  3. All 18 tables build in this way were appended together to build the complete list of species present in India. The list developed this way was treated in the same manner as table species_list and the two tables were corroborated with each other to reach a conclusion about list of species and number of species present in India.

  4. The wider distribution of a species is judged on the basis of number of states where it is present. Per cent occurrence is calculated on the basis of number of studies in which reported divided by total number of studies.
